In my Evanston,
Summer gives way to fall.
Trees turn from green to brown
and leaves fall off
and scatter everywhere.
The are blown from here to there
for us to rake,
rake to make piles
for us to jump in.
When summer gives way to fall
we trade in swimsuits for text books.
We trade in days of doing nothing for school.
We trade in waking up at 10:30 for waking up at 7:00 am.
When summer gives way to fall
we sit around and marvel at where the time has gone.
Just yesterday it was June,
but now we must accept that September is upon us.
We sit down to get some homework done
and look forward to all the things fall brings.
