Stop Motion Animation Reflection Questions 05/19/2014

1. Tell the story of your animation. What happens? Who are the characters?
In my animation, the main character finds herself being attacked by her hair. She is the only character in the movie, unless you count the hair. At the end of the animation, she is devoured, and the screen goes black.
2. What were some cool effects you discovered that you can do with stop motion animation?
With stop motion animation, I could "defy gravity". In a photo obscuring a hand being held up, or a wire slowly lifting a prop, it makes a cool effect, but with stop motion you can actually see this in motion.
4. What were the best parts of your animation? What are you most proud of?
I was the most proud of the way that I had positioned the camera. I had to obscure my hand at certain points to create the effect that my hair was levitating, and that was surprisingly hard. Another hard part about taking the pictures was that I didn't know exactly how to create the effect that I was actually in motion, so what I did was to stay in a specific position and slowly shift. This almost ended in me being suffocated by my hair. It was a challenge, considering the fact that there were other people in the class looking at me slapping myself in the face. -_-
5. What would you change or try if you could do this project again?
If I could do this again, I would have done it in a background that was a bit more like the mood that I was going for. A media arts classroom is unfortunately not the best place to make a mock horror movie. I probably would have ended up using a green screen.
