This week I finished my card set so I started working on a logo for the people who requested the cards. Their organization is called Math is FUNdamental, so what I did was for the part that says FUN, I made it look bright and colorful and, well, fun but I also included a lot of math-y stuff. I thought this was really fun to do. It gave a look into what graphic design is. I had to know where to place each of the words and how big or small to make them.
Before Winter Break I started working on this project for an art show at the high school. The project was to interpret a poem by e.e. cummings entitled "maggy and milly and molly and may." As I was reading the poem the last line stuck out to me "For whatever we lose (like a you or a me) it's always ourselves we find in the sea." I imagined a face reflected in water so I learned how to fade two pictures into each other. I then put that picture into two cupped hands as if the hands were holding a pool of water. A few days ago, the piece was chosen to be featured in the art show. What was cool was that people used so many different mediums to make their pictures. The students from Chute used photoshop but other students used colored pencils, paints, and even metal. Overall it was pretty fun to create this.
After I came back from winter break I started working on this set of cards. These cards are for first graders in the district. They are going to play a game using different sets of cards that some other girls in this class are working on. My set of cards is the visual representation so I used stars to represent 1 digit numbers and moons to represent 10s. One of my challenges was that the paint bucket didn't work on the stars so I had to paint the entire star each time I switched colors. The good thing was I could copy and paste the star after I colored it in. My goal for next week is to make the cards for the list of numbers for the backs of these cards.
